Leah Culver’s web product guidelines

Leah Culver worked at Instructables (where she laser-etched logos into a sponsored Macbook Pro) before founding Pownce with Kevin Rose and Daniel Burka as a way of sending messages, links, files and events to friends. After being acquired, Leah now works as a software engineer at Sixapart while maintaining some other interesting web projects on the side.

Leah started this cool list of web product guidelines that Mike Malone jumped in to collaborate on:

  • simple
  • public over private

  • permalinks
  • one important item per page

  • don’t wanker in technology
  • a medium is not a grande
  • break convention for your users
  • no useless widgets
  • nobody changes the defaults
  • level up
  • invaluable tool
  • use it yourself
  • make it a game
  • make decisions not options
