Well when I made the mentioned transaction on this post. (yes I’m the guy with the surfboard!) – I really thought, this is so cool. I’m meeting real people, I’ve made someone happy, he’s made me happy and it just feels pretty damn good. I made a real connection with somone who live 5000 miles away. WOW. I never had this feeling working in my many jobs. In fact, I was really proud that I’d created something of value for strangers through the website.

Great post Ross! Two quick web experiences from me: I met Steve Morton through the Free Business Tips (FBT) Forum a year ago or so and he gave me terrific service through his company Powerhost when I was having trouble with my old web host. And now I recommend him all over the place because he delivers consistent quality at a reasonable price. He has since also found me on Twitter. @stephenkelly pointed out to me through Twitter that one of my sites had been hacked and had some nasty links heading outbound. The hack was well over my tech knowledge and he subsequently spent 3 hours on Skype with me helping free of charge until the problem was fixed. This was a guy I had never met, hardly interacted with and now we get on tremendously. We just sponsored the last BTUB together. You're absolutely right, simply platforms make amazing things happen!

Hey Ross,

Great post. I think we are going to see a continued growth in platforms in 2009. iTunes has served as one very successful model, whilst meetup.com also highlights the way for many great connections.

Personally, twitter continues to be my favourite platform. Too many stories to tell here but @MTUB was fun, #SUCM was great and @mted should be excellent!
