Bifi = bicycle + free wifi

Bifi was just a glint in my eyes a few months ago but made its debut appearance at Trampoline 2!

It’s a simple idea: bicycle + free wifi = bifi!

The colourful bicycle was supplied by Mr Indysocks Steve Hopkins, the free wifi is supplied by Sam Sabey through one of Andy Gelme’s ‘Things’, in the spirit of the Nodecity mesh, and it will park outside Yabble’s cafes! I love it when an idea comes to fruition! You can follow bifi’s movement using the #bifi hashtag on twitter. Keep an eye out for bifi on the streets of Melbourne.

  • I was experimenting last year with running a Meraki free wifi node out of my car using my Eee PC with Linux as a gateway for my 3G dongle but it was flaky ... couldn't get the configuration on my laptop to work on each boot-up and I know nothing about Linux so couldn't take @bigjono everywhere with me to keep it running!
  • @irldexter can probably give you some tips for that - he has some sort of
black box router that takes a 3g dongle..

If you're considering taking #bifi to Cafe Racer, then I suggest that you consider taking #sportsBiFi ... http://twitpic.com/marot ! When the on-board telemetry is sorted, it can be made available, if you want.
  • The bifi is awesome - I love it so much. We just need to actually get it to hit the streets :)
  • Where should we take it? I'm thinking Postal Hall, Min Lokal, Cafe Racer...

Corner Shop in Yarraville for @sammartino?
